We have been very busy in Puffins and Penguins since our half term holiday. The children have been working very hard to prepare for our Phonics Check which took place this week. Every child tackled the check with a calm and focused attitude. Everyone did their very best and enjoyed the challenge!
In maths we have been re-visiting place value; the children are becoming much more familiar with tens and units and have been using their reasoning skills to solve problems related to the place value of numbers to 20, 50 or 100. We followed this with a week of recognising and counting money. The children have been using coins to pay for items in our ‘shop’ and some have been able to give change to 20p and beyond. Maybe you could keep trying this with your child at home – can they count the money in their money box? Can they pay for items when you go shopping?
Our topic this half term is Africa and we have begun to research this interesting continent. We are focusing on Kenya and next week we will be cooking some Kenyan food and finishing off our African clay masks.
Just a reminder, our sports day will take place on Monday 26th June at 1.30pm. Look forward to seeing you there!
