It has been another productive and busy week in Year 1. The children have loved learning about the weather in the United Kingdom in our topic sessions and have been looking at the climate in different areas of the UK as well as studying seasonal changes. They have worked extremely hard to produce a detailed and informative non-fiction booklet about all the things they have found out and will continue to complete their booklets over the next week.
In Maths we have been practising our addition and subtraction skills in order to solve a range of different problems. We will continue to revise this over the coming week to prepare us for our end of half term Maths assessment, which will take place on Thursday. You could help your child to work on their problem solving and reasoning skills at home by asking them to help solve a maths problem verbally in a real life context, practising their understanding of words that can mean add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Half of the year group attended the Blyth Sports Partnership Dance Festival on Thursday. The children absolutely loved sharing their Lion King Dance with all the other schools involved and, although it wasn’t a competition and we may be a little biased, we definitely think we were the most spectacular! The children were very supportive of all the children taking part and not only showed us what brilliant dancers they are but how considerate and well behaved they can be too. Well done Year 1! Look out for the video of the dance, which will hopefully be made available to watch on the website soon.
Puffins also had a lovely time on their pyjama day in celebration of their World Book Day Success. Lots of reading took place and it was a delight to see the love of reading the children have.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents and carers who came to our parent workshop on Tuesday evening. A lot of hard work goes into these events and we know you are all so busy too so it was so lovely to see people engaging with school to help support our wonderful children’s learning at home.
Next Week we will be:
- Completing our weather non-fiction booklets.
- Learning about extreme weather in the UK
- Using information about rainfall to create graphs and answer questions.
- Revising addition, subtraction and problem solving skills
- Completing our end of half term assessments
- Learning about the Easter story.
