In English we continued learning about the features and layout of letters, using what we have learnt to write our own informal letters. The children discussed the different forms of punctuation that they may need in a letter (full stops, question marks and exclamation marks) and how to use them appropriately. We also looked at electronic forms of communication such as email and instant messages in Computing, discussing the ways we can stay safe online. At the end of the week, we looked at what happens to a letter once it is posted and the journey a letter makes. We made our own journey to the post-box too. We don’t want to give too much away but expect a special letter soon!
The children have been thinking very hard in Maths, using what they know about years, months, weeks, days, hours and seconds to solve reasoning problems. They also practised telling the time to the hour and half hour. We will return to time later on in the year to consolidate this learning.
Our focus in the afternoons have been on Science. We looked more closely at humans as a type of animal and discussed the parts of the body and their uses. The children carried out a sense experiment and discussed how we use our 5 senses to make sense of the world around us.
Next Week we will be:
- Introducing the concept of multiplication.
- Learning about the important historical events building up to the Great Fire of London, such as the Plague.
- Creating our own portraits based on the paintings of Rembrandt and Picasso.
- Continuing to learn about the life of Buddha.
- Preparing for our Year 1 Assembly (Thursday 26th January at 9am)
Half of the year group will be attending the Multi-skills festival on Thursday 19th January in the afternoon. If your child has been chosen you will have received a letter, which needs to be returned by Tuesday 17th January. These children much come to school in their PE kits on this day. The rest of the year group will be attending another festival later on in the year.
