Help with Spellings – Games and Apps

As you know, our latest results from the ‘Year 3 50 Words List’ have been sent home this week. Hopefully, you have had a chance to look through the words you found difficult and tried to think of ways to remember them for our next test at the end of the term. To help with this, we thought we would put together a list of resources that will help to make spelling more interesting.

First of all, we have attached the spelling games we sent home at the start of the year. All you need is a piece of spare paper and some coloured pencils or pens. Make sure you try as many different games as possible. The more you try, the less likely you are to get bored!

For those of you who love technology, here are some links to some fantastic free Apps that you can use on your mobile, laptop or tablet.

This App allows you to create your own custom word lists (think about weekly spellings and the 50 spelling list!). When practising, it says the word aloud, puts the word into a sentence while you spell it. If you spell the word correctly, it tells you immediately.

This app uses the common ‘Look, Cover, Write, Check’ method, where the app does the ‘Cover’ and ‘Check’ parts for you. It is simple to create tests, add words to them, and start them so that you will be completing your test in no time!
