Reading for pleasure

Now that the nights are getting darker, there are numerous opportunities to cozy up with your child and a good book. The reading in Year 4 is definitely improving, and we are making every effort to hear your child read weekly in class. It has been a pleasure to witness their progress.

Next week your child will be doing their half termly assessments, which will include maths, spelling and reading comprehension. Each class will complete our weekly comprehension lesson today on paper so that they can bring it home and share with you. It is important to ask your child the same sort of questions about other texts that they are reading, to encourage them to read deeper into the story and be aware of the inferences that the authors are making. This will help them to perform to the best of their ability next week.

If we don’t have a chance to see you during the coming week, remember it is teacher training day on Friday. We would like to wish you all a very happy and relaxing half term holiday, the children have definitely earned it.
