There has been lots of research into the effectiveness of homework and it is certainly the case that schools whose pupils do homework tend to be more successful. Common homework activities include reading or practising spelling and number facts, but may also include more extended activities to develop inquiry skills or more directed and focused work based on what has been taught in school.

Research has found that effective homework is associated with greater parental involvement and support, therefore our homework is designed to encourage parental engagement. Your feedback on how your child has managed each piece of set work, and the support you offered them, helps us develop a deeper understanding of how your child is progressing.

We are currently trialling a new homework system. This will replace the sheets that we used to send home last year. Children will be expected to read every night. They will also be offered IT learning homework opportunities. At the end of this term we will be consulting with parents and carers to seek their views on the trial.

All of the children have log on access to a range of IT learning programs.  These include;

· Mathletics

· TT Rockstars

· Education City

We encourage the children to enjoy learning with these resources as much as possible.  Links to all of these sites are on the ‘Learning Zone’ section of the school website. If you do not have access to the required IT, we can offer a range of alternatives, including use of in school computers. Please let you child’s teacher know if you require this support.

To help the children focus on learning they are doing, we will set a Mathletics unit which relates to their classwork each Friday. Children will not be punished for non-completion, but will be rewarded if they do complete work.

The children know how to use Mathletics, but we are keen to offer you some training  too. Therefore, we would like to invite you to a training evening on 1.10.19 and 3.10.19 (during parents evenings). This is not a test for you, just an opportunity to show you how the program works.
