26/1/26 We love Chateau de Grande Romaine

Our bus driver is a legend. He is French but has lived most of his life in Yorkshire, so has a unique accent. He also tells the worst dad jokes ever with French twist. ‘Waiter, do you have frogs legs?’ ‘No I always walk like this!’

The staff team are amazing, apart from Mrs Jobling, who has only been awake for 7% of the journey here.

We were starving when we arrived so luckily tea was fantastic. Limitless salad, French bread and fruit. Mains were chicken breast, veggie chili, and mushroom goulash. Pancakes for pudding with chocolate sauce. Everyone ate, even the ones whose mams thought they wouldn’t.

We then had a crepe making activity with chefs hats, all the gear, and crepe cooking skills.

After football, face packs and free time, we used the fact that we are an hour ahead to pretend it was later than it really was, and got them ready for bed. The bedtime routine is me reading a boring story in my most boring voice…to hypnotise them to sleep. It’s worked a treat. Worked on Miss Jobling too, unsurprisingly!
