Diversity At Newsham
At Newsham we seek to promote diversity and respectful acceptance and understanding of difference. We have an award for the class that does the most to promote unity and understanding.
Our class award developed from our initial work supported by materials from ‘Show Racism the Red Card’. This will tell you why our trophy looks like this!
The award has become about more than that now, and is for the class that shows it will not stand for anything less than the most respectful stance on cultural, religious, physical or ability differences. Furthermore, classes win the award when they stand up that they believe is wrong.
The most recent winners of the trophy were Atlantis, who are tireless campaigners for what they believe is right, and against what they believe is wrong.
One example of their work came from a pupil called Yalda, who was inspired by her own experiences, and the book ‘Malala’. Her art work is called ‘Don’t Let Them Take Away Your Education!’
