Early Years Curriculum
'Play is the highest form of research' - Albert Einstein
Whilst many Early Years settings have moved to a more formal style of learning, at Newsham, we are proud of our play-based approach to learning. We understand the importance of play in developing the crucial skills and knowledge needed to succeed in later key stages. Therefore our youngest children experience a carefully planned and resourced provision to promote this, combined with carpet sessions such as phonics and maths.
Our curriculum has been carefully selected to ensure opportunities for enrichment and cultural capital. While creating a unique experience at Newsham, we also blend our expectations with Development Matters guidance. More information on this can be found here. Our long term plans are here.

Pupils who leave Reception, are well prepared for their ongoing ‘Journey to Excellence’
