About Newsham Primary
Newsham Primary School is situated in the coastal town of Blyth, Northumberland. We opened as a primary in September 2009 but there has been a school on our site for almost 100 years. We are very proud of our school and work together with our staff, pupils and families on our 'Journey to Excellence'. All members of our school community display the values of being 'Respectful, Responsible and Ready'... because that is The Newsham Way.
We usually have around 450 pupils on roll, and about 40 pupils in our Nursery . Our school day is 7 hours and 5 minutes, 35.5 hours per week. The morning bell rings at 8.40 am at which time the doors open so the children can come into school for registration. Lunchtime for pupils is either 11:45-12:45 or 12.15-1.15. At 3.15, our bell goes to mark the end of the day.
Our classes are named following a nautical theme, from the Pebbles in Early Years to Neptune and Atlantis in Year 6. We have 14 mainstream classes (2 form entry) and a 39 place nursery. We also have two SEND units within school, one for Early Years/KS1, Sea Otters and one for KS2 pupils, Sandpipers.
We offer a free breakfast club every morning from 8.00 am. We are part of the governments free breakfast club programme. As part of the offer we give 30 minutes of childcare alongside a free breakfast. This club is open to pupils from Reception to Year 6. We also have an After School Club (ASC) which runs Monday to Friday till 5.00 pm as part of our wraparound provision.
All of our brightly decorated classrooms are of a good size, containing modern equipment. Our large hall is used for assemblies, dinners and PE lessons. School dinners are served from our on-site kitchen.
