Today, Emily and Darren from Morgan Sindall came in to Year 5 to talk to us about the work they’ve been doing on the Northumberland Line. They showed us how the project has developed over time and the digital images of what it is going to look like when it’s finished. They explained that there are loads of different careers linked to the construction industry – civil engineers, project managers, site managers, apprentices, office staff and educational outreach coordinators like Emily who get to come into schools and inspire the next generation. We found out about site safety and PPE equipment, focussing on how engineers keep safe and how we can keep ourselves safe. Then we got to design and build our own stations of the future using Lego. Darren and Emily helped us to think about accessibility needs, environmental needs and making sure our stations would function in real life. There are some excellent future members of the construction industry in Year 5!
