Formula 1 with Year 5

Year 5 loved our visit from Jess Allen from the Red Bull Formula 1 team on Tuesday. Jess explained to us what Formula 1 was, the many different careers associated with Formula 1 teams and talked about how she went from the North East of England to working as a data engineer in this incredibly exciting world. During the session, we were able to ask questions and it was clear that many of the children in our year group had done their own research in advance because Jess was really impressed with the insight so many of us had. At the end of the session we were able to handle a steering wheel which red bull had used in races, Max Verstappen’s helmet from previous races as well as his gloves and training race suit. Jess wanted to pass on how impressed she had been with the children from Year 5 and Year 6 over the last two days. She has left us some signed postcards from Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez which Mr Gregory is going to give out to UKS2 children who complete our ‘We Are Scientists’ tasks over the course of the year if their work is chosen to go on our special display. Well done everyone in UKS2 and a huge thank you to Jess for such a special experience. Watch out for the next crop of racers, engineers and aerodynamicists coming from Newsham appearing on future seasons of Drive to Survive!
