This week, the children in Year 5 applied what they had learned about forces last half term to create their own pneumatic machines. Initially, the children carried out investigative experiments to test what would happen if they did different things to their syringe plungers. Then, building on their skills from DT in Year 4 where they made pneumatic moving monsters, they created new moving mechanisms and added hinged levers to be able to pick objects up. After they were complete, they created labelled diagrams and evaluated their models – discussing what went well, what challenges they faced and how they would improve things next time.
