Nicola from Rockpool School came to visit Nursery. She read the children a story called “Sharing a Shell” then introduced her rockpool creatures.
The children were able to see and hold hermit crabs, anemones, dog whelks, periwinkles, starfish and baby crabs.
They learned some interesting facts such as a starfish has 5 arms and 500 legs! A dog whelk drills through shells with its tongue to eat limpets and barnacles by making them into a smoothie!
We talked a lot about being gentle with the living creatures and the children tried very hard to do this.
What a wonderful experience.
