Nursery had a visit from Nicola, a marine biologist. Nicola brought in some rockpool creatures.
The children were able to see and touch:
A periwinkle
A starfish
A dog whelk
A hermit crab
A shore crab
Our favourite facts were that a starfish has five arms, five eyes, hundreds of legs and one mouth (that it also uses to pass out digested food!)
An anemone is an upside down jellyfish!
A dog whelk eats other snails by drilling a hole in their shell and slurping them out!
We were really proud of how gently the children looked after the living creatures.
